Cinco De Mayo

Happy Cinco De Mayo!

Every year since we crossed me & a few of my linesisters go out for some drinks & mexican food (im trying to stay on a strict diet so I might not make it).
Anyways....been a while since I blogged. Definitely not going to be a constant blogger. Oh well!

I kinda found a roomate... Ill elaborate more on the situation as time goes on. For now im just going to cross my fingers and pray it works out....and she doesnt turn out like the bitch I assume she will be.

....Is It because I'm Black?

This whole "Trying to find a roomate" game has made me very weary :-( For a month now I have been trying to find just ONE classmate to move in with me in July. Ive had a few people act interested then they somehow make "other" plans. Well......I know no one wants to address the elephant in the room so here goes: Is it because im Black? I know, I shouldn't be so pessimistic and likely there are other plausible reasons. But this is the only logical one that comes to my mind.

I mean.. I keep getting the same: "you sound so cool to live with....but im going to keep my options open."

...umm, ok O_o

So far it seems that I am the only African American in my class ( I pray that during orientation I discover otherwise) but with that thought alone I am a little nervous. What if I dont make any friends :-( I pray they accept me.

Enough of sounding pathetic...I really dont want to have to get a one bedroom and have to take all of that financial burden PLUS live alone in a new city. But... its slowly looking like it. Im giving myself 30 more days to keep playing this game. Then im signing a lease for a 1 bedroom and not looking back.

Lord, If it is in your plans please bless me with a roomate!

Med Term Tuesday Inspiration

I have been inspired to start a Med Term Tuesday Posy by Lindseyexplores (You can find a link to her blog on the side).

It's definitely something productive to do while I sit here at work...twittling my thumbs...waiting for the end of June to roll around. 73 More days!

This first post is by Lindseyexplores, I will start coming up with my own soon after.

Welcome to Medical Terminology Tuesday my fellow nerds! Here we will explore terminology and frequently asked PANCE (Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam) questions!

Sounds exciting, no?

This week we will be learning a little bit about the Apgar score.
The Apgar score is used to determine the immediate health status of a newborn baby. It is not necessarily a predictor of health, however.
The Apgar score is obtained by measuring five criteria at 1 minute, and again at 5 minutes. Scores add up to a maximum of 10 points.
You can receive a score of 0, 1, or 2 for each of the five criteria. They are:

Appearance (color): 0= blue, 1= extremities are blue, 2= pink
Pulse (heart rate): 0= absent, 1= <100, 2= >100
Grimace (reflex irritability): 0= no response, 1= grimace when stimulated, 2= pull away when stimulated
Activity (muscle tone): 0= none, 1= some flexion, 2= active movement
Respiration: 0= absent, 1= weak or irregular, 2= strong
If scores are low (<3), they are usually repeated at regular intervals. Scores above a 7 are considered reassuring.
A low score just indicates that the newborn requires immediate medical attention, but it does not make long-term predictions on the child’s health.

I owe u much thanks

I owe Mrs. Katharine Breaux PA-c and This book for helping me get into a program.YAY! This book definitely helped me with my preparation & understanding the application process. Get it if before you apply!

She Will Be Missed.....

Yesterday I was awakened by some terrible news.....One of my close friends passed away from her battle with Scleroderma.

She definitely fought faithfully till the end. I was blessed to know her through the Bible study we formed On-Campus in 2007. She was such a bright and cheerful spirit, (and I'm not just saying that). She never lost her inviting, sweet, loving demeanor for 1 second when her appearance started changing a few years ago. I just remember hearing Doctors weren't sure of what it was when it first started happening. (I do not want to get into detail out of Privacy to my dear friend).

I really just want to share that it is REALLY hard to come to terms with this. It seems like a dream...
I went through her Twitter timeline and saw her hopes and dreams for her future... but also her loving personality that I aspire to have now.
She IS my Sister in Christ and I will never forget the feelings she has left us with.

"Oh yeah I almost forgot...I LOVE YOU ALL and I truly mean it! ♥ " -A.C.

Well....this is akward

Sooo...yea.

I dont even like writing in diaries. And I only have subscribed to 1 blog in my lifetime.  *Dont expect any cool bold fonts or random music videos...you will be lucky to get a picture!

BUT im hoping that somebody in need will read this Blog one day and see something useful, take some advice, or have a good laugh/ Or maybe my family & friends can just follow my journey through PA school.

Guess I should talk a little bout myself: Without sounding lame!

I' m a Nigerian Physician Assisstant Student ------> Hence the name NaijaPA

I crossed the Zealous Zeta Sigma Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc at Uof Houston #Spring08
Graduated with a B.S in Nutrition & worked at the VA as a Clinical Assistant Coordinator for the HIV clinic...A big title for a small job. But HEY, It pays the bills!
I still have 13 weeks before I move out of Texas and start PA school in Nevada. (scary) yet exciting!

I'll probably cover some of my fears about starting school & moving outta state in my next post.
